Pretty Little Things

I recently cut my own hair (not the first time…)! And then I went to the most amazing salon to get it fixed…and here is the finished product! I had one of the best salon experiences at Cetana Salon down on the Embarcadero.

1. The treatment: like a queen

3. Learning experience: off the charts

Adrian was my hair stylist (I hope I spelled her name right!). She listened and really understood what I hated about my hair and what I wanted the outcome to be. She fixed my fringe, recommended an amazing new product, and taught me a new way to dry my hair (which I will do a separate post on). I finally feel like my hair will begin to grow out in a style that I’m happy with.

FIVE STARS!

This is the product Adrian picked out for me! Over time, it will tame my hair in a way that makes it much more manageable–especially when natural. Oh, and did I mention they offer a complimentary bang trim between my next cut?!

Aside from my hair dreams…this is another pretty little thing to add to the list! Benefit Fake Up isn’t just an under eye concealer, but also a much needed hydrator (especially during finals week). 😦

Navy Fleet by Sally Hansen is my latest nail color obsession. It goes with everything. I swear.

This is number one on my summer reading list! Very excited.

And last but certainly not least, my new favorite quilted bomber by Gap. I simply cannot take it off…

Day Party

Most of us picture holiday parties happening at night. However, many parties do occur in the day time. But what is appropriate to wear during the day?! I mean, it’s so easy to OVER DO IT.

Here is what I advise:

Holiday dresses can scream formal. Switching it up with a skirt and an eye catching top is a great alternative.

Velvet is a perfect material for the season. All you have to do is commit to a color scheme, and the outfit will appear as just the right amount of fancy and understated.

Wear heels, but something a little more casual– open toes to show off your fun holiday nails will do the trick! Don’t hold back on your accessories. Classy jewelry will keep your look whole.

If you’re every worried about what to do with your hair, just wear it down. It’s effortless, yet beautiful. Keep your make-up refined. A deep lip that matches the color scheme, and lots of mascara will be just enough.

Finals Week calls for a few beauty hacks that will make your life a little bit easier, because let’s face it, we have more important things to be thinking about…right?

Coconut milk or coconut oil is a great alternative to almost any cream you ran out of! Not only is it great for your dry skin during the Winter months, but it’s also a delicious mask for your hair.

Most of us are a little more pale this time of year, or maybe you accidentally bought the wrong foundation. Adding a little bit of moisturizer will lighten the foundation, better blending it in with your natural skin tone.

Holiday parties usually run late into the evening, so that means we need to make sure we stay smelling good all night! By rubbing vaseline on your pulse points, or anywhere you like to spray your perfume, it will make it last.

Want the matte lip, but don’t have time to go buy the matte stick? Before applying your color, dab on some concealer, or even a white eyeliner/eyeshadow.

All out of dry shampoo? Grab the starch out of your laundry room, and spray away. Works just as well, if not better.

Now, time to get back to the books…

Since it’s Halloween, I’m going to talk about how you can turn a costume into an everyday outfit!

Featuring my little sis, it’s easy to see how a few changes can really change EVERYTHING.

An outfit needs to have dignity, which means, show some self worth and cover up (a little). You can still show off your legs, just don’t show off everything. Maintaining curiosity is all part of the school girl demeanor. Wear flats, not heals. Keep the pig tails…and you’re ready for class.

For Halloween, it’s ok to go ALL out on make-up. In fact, check out this tutorial by The Western Wild. I LOVE costume make-up. However, switching to everyday mode calls for keeping things clean and simple. Urban Decay Naked 2 is the best natural shadow.

I need to invest in a versatile two piece, and Reformation has the best variety!

A pair of selvedge jeans for women– LVC and made in the USA!

To match the jeans, a brown leather purse from Levi’s.

I have a feeling that patterned pants will be in for fall, and Anthropolgie has the best girly/comfy patterns to choose from.

I am so used to wearing black flats, but it’s finally time to step out of my comfort zone. ModCloth’s flats are so irresistible– I think I’ll start there…

Fall calls for a change in make-up. It’s not quite as dry as winter will be, but the change in seasons is still quite noticeable. That means adding a little more color to my eyes, and Naked2Basics by Urban Decay is the perfect choice.

The recent death of this fashion icon has given me the opportunity to learn more about how she paved the way for so many women. I can’t wait to start reading!

Six Inch Heels

Bette Midler once said, “I firmly believe that with the right footwear one can rule the world.”

I couldn’t have put it better myself, Bette! The right heel can be a game changer for the most basic outfit. You can find these strappy, beautiful pieces of footwear at Zara.

For a simple look, I try to do something special with my hair. My turtleneck tank inspired me to incorporate a hairdo from the same era– the 70’s. I started out by blow drying my hair to give it extra lift. Then I parted if far on one side. Next, I tied together, underneath the hair in the back, the front pieces of my hair from each side. All you need is a touch of hairspray and you’re golden!

As you may have noticed, I don’t wear a lot of super high-end designer pieces. My Louis Vuitton wallet is an exception. It was a gift a couple years ago, and I couldn’t resist its unique look. Unfortunately they no longer sell this particular piece, but any little clutch would do.

I am a girl who is much more comfortable in red lips, and this used to be because I couldn’t figure out how to make nude lips pop. However, I recently learned the secret– a red lipliner! It makes so much sense. I used the MAC Brick liner with L’oreal’s Fairest Nude lipstick, and it was a success.
