Spring Sweaters

This time of year is always difficult to dress for—especially in the Bay Area. It starts out chilly and overcast, and by 1pm it’s 73 degrees and sunny.

That’s why it’s so important to own a lightweight sweater that can help make the cold to warm transition effortless.

I’m wearing my grandma’s vintage Eddie Bauer sweater. It’s the perfect amount of material to keep me warm in the morning but loose enough that I’m cool in the afternoon. My favorite aspect is the bright, white color that doesn’t attract the sun.

Vintage Style

Most trends are cyclical, moving in and out of vogue over time. What was fashionable for an older generation, i.e. bellbottoms, may be a dreaded faux pas later; yet some pieces are so iconic that they have made repeated encores. Here are a few examples of style fads that have made impressive comebacks:

Rainy Day Adventures

Hunter Rain Boots, Winter, Rain, Fashion

Rainy season has finally started here in Northern California, and I couldn’t be more ready for a much needed change in my natural world.

The timing is also perfect because Joel surprised me with Hunter rain boots for Christmas! They had been on my wishlist for a long time, and I am so pleased.

The classic yet versatile style and look is unbeatable, and of course, they do a great job of keeping me dry. Now I just need to buy thick, wool socks so I can wear them in the snow.

Meanwhile, I love pairing them with my beloved Lands’ End rain coat. The coat is long and the boots are tall, so I am practically fully covered. Still, the glimpse of color poking through the gap adds a touch of personality to the outfit that makes it not only functional, but really fun.

Joel and I always go for a long drive on the backroads after a heavy rainfall. All of the trees and grass look fresh and renewed….It’s a great way to start off the new year.

I’m so excited for all of the roads I will travel in my new boots and can’t wait to continue sharing the journey.

Winter Outerwear Checklist

With Winter just a few weeks away, it’s time to make sure you have the essentials in the outerwear department. I recommend having something for rain or snow (depending on where you live), a fancy and an everyday option, and a cozy, indoor piece.  With just a handful of coats, you should be set for numerous scenarios during the coldest months of the year.

Fall Inspiration

Fall is finally here! Hands down, this is my favorite season, and October is the best month of the year where I live. I love the cooler weather, shorter days, and cozy vibes that Fall brings, and we can’t forget about the fashion, of course! I wanted to share some Fall trends to look out for, according to a few bloggers that have been inspiring me for years. Check them out:

Plaid Please

Gal Meets Glam

Plaid is definitely back in style. I used to wear plaid a lot when I was a kid and have since tried to incorporate it into my wardrobe with bits and pieces, like a subtle scarf here and there, but now I feel like I can really dive in. I love the look of a plaid skirt. And no, I don’t mean like an old Britney Spears music video, but rather something a little longer, classier, and paired with a chunky sweater and boots.

Say “Yes” to Camel

Camel is one of the colors I rarely gravitate towards, but all of a sudden I’m thinking I need to hop on the trend train. Camel is simple, yet sophisticated. The earthy tone suits Fall perfectly, bringing out the foliage nicely. I love an oversized camel sweater or dress, and maybe even a camel wool coat too. It’s meant to be a statement piece, and that statement is understated elegance.

Pleated Skirts are Unexpectedly Fun

Late Afternoon, Pleated Skirts

Late Afternoon

A long pleated skirt has been on my wish list for some time now, but I’ve been seeing them a lot lately. Long skirts transition well—you can pair them with a sweater or heavier coat, flats or booties, and dress them up or down. They are a must-have closet staple, and add just a tad of special to an ordinary style.

Pop Some Color

Natalie Dressed, Earrings

Usually when I think of Fall, I imagine muted colors and tones, like tan, burgundy, and green. But I love the way an accessory can add a pop to a Fall outfit. It isn’t overwhelming, just a little something to make you look twice. One bright color can be the best complement to an otherwise understated look. I love the splash of a brightly colored scarf, tights, or piece of jewelry.

Meet my Good Friend, Suede

Something Navy, Suede

Something Navy

Suede is a great alternative to a heavy leather jacket. It’s lighter, subtler, and softer! The brown suede jacket is a classic look for Fall, but other colors are fun too. A warm burgundy or orange is a playful way to wear the fabric. Suede makes everything more fashionable. Throw it over a simple t-shirt and jeans; you’ll be ready for whatever the day has in store!

The Utility Jacket

gap utility jacket, bdg jeans, lucky brand shoes, nine west cross body

I’ve been trying to find a cute, everyday utility jacket for a long time. I wanted something that was light enough to be worn year round, but also heavy enough to keep me warm on a chilly day. This Gap jacket fit my requirements perfectly.

Utility jackets can often be a little too masculine for my liking, but this one was cut in a more feminine way. It’s both cropped and loosely fitted, which adds a little extra style than a typical cut.

I love the versatile collar too. I’ve been wearing it untucked recently, but folded down is great for a warmer day. All in all, I highly recommend investing in this closet staple–especially if you’re living in a city like San Fransisco that’s freezing one minute and hot the next.

Cali Winter Ensemble

I finally found the peacoat of my dreams! It’s a wool-cashmere blend, a deep plum, and versatile.

I’ve been pairing this coat with active wear, fancy wear, and my favorite–casual wear. My go-to outfit this winter has been booties, jeans, and my trustworthy peacoat! It’s a statement piece that never goes out of style.

This year has been suprisingly cooler than past years, and this coat has been able to keep me warm! It’s a great investment piece, too. You can add layers underneath if you’re headed to the snow, but it’s also light enough to be worn during the Spring and Fall.
