Spring Must-Have: Flares

It’s no secret that Flares are on trend again. I was pretty apprehensive at first. I didn’t think Flares could be flattering. After some research, however, I have learned that depending on the fit, wash, and style, Flares can do quite the contrary.

If you’re frame is petite, try a Cropped Flare:

How To Wear Long Shirts

I LOVE long shirts. This fashion statement can make or break an outfit–especially if you are petite. Though there are generally NO rules when it comes to fashion, I have a few suggestions for how to wear long shirts that might help short girls pull it off.

  1. Choose a neutral color. Even though this shirt is the main attraction, too much attention to that one area can be a distraction from the look as a whole. This Asos Top is perfect. Asos Top
  2. Find a cropped jacket that can accentuate how long your legs are. Without it, your silhouette can disappear. A jacket similar to this Free People one will do the trick. free people jacket
  3. Pair your top with skinny jeans or leggings. Once again, this will help define your shape. Madewell is currently having a sale on thesemadewell leggings
  4. Finally, I recommend a pair of heels! As with any outfit, heels not only add height to your look, but they also give you the appearance of longer legs. I just bought these booties from Charlotte Russe and am in LOVE. Charlotte Russe booties

Has anyone else been wondering what the difference between sweatpants and joggers are? I’m pretty sure the only difference is that joggers are socially acceptable to wear out and about, whereas sweatpants are frowned upon. These are basically the only thing I wore in Disneyland. And yes, I call them joggers.

Something else I can’t stop wearing: this scarf. It’s soft, warm, and burgundy. Need I say more?

I have found the holy grail of skin care products. Tarte’s Maracuja Oil is a miracle. Acne? Cured. Dry skin? Gone. Glowing? Yes. You’re welcome.

Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner! I used to plan my costume out months ahead of time when I was a kid. Though the outfit is fun and all, it’s nothing without a great face to match! Here are a few Halloween make-up looks I found for inspiration:

Sephora has the best “Halloween Must-Haves” to choose from. I recommend stepping out of your comfort zone! After all, Halloween is a great time to experiment.

If you still haven’t found the right costume, like me, ASOS and ModCloth have great Halloween selections to choose from. Even if I don’t end up deciding on a specific THING to be, I still think it’s fun to dress up a little. Here are a couple of my favorite pieces:

Modern

It’s amazing how much style has changed throughout the years. What was once appropriate for an office setting is no longer the mainstream. I recently saw the new movie, The Intern, and it reminded me just how much workwear has evolved.

Right now, we are enjoying the casual workwear phase. Mixing and matching laid back pieces with hints of something fancy or professional is all the rage.

It’s fun to experiment with your style in a workplace setting. The suit and tie uniform is no longer required, although, a timeless look like that is truly unbeatable. Our modern times have allowed us to play a little. I enjoy pairing an androgynous article of clothing with a feminine accent piece that I am most comfortable in–like these pants with my oversized sunglasses.

What is important, however, is that you tried. Your workplace attire must be a step up from what you wear on the weekends. For you, this may mean wearing a pair of heels or a button down instead of sneakers and a t-shirt. That doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable, though. Dressing up is a very individual process.

For instance, this guy looks ready to head into the office with a pair of sneakers on. That is because of the way he dressed up his shirt and blazer.

Or, keep the t-shirt and add a pair of heels and businesslike jacket. Remember, workwear is not necessarily the same thing you would deem appropriate for an interview. Jeans are something you can wear once you have the job, not when you’re trying to get it.

Modern times are telling us that it’s ok to look like ourselves. Professional environments are stuffy enough. Looking put together in something you feel good about is more valued than wearing a pair of misfitted slacks.

Blown Away

If you follow me on Instagram, @lookbookbygoodies, you might have noticed my post featuring my mom’s beautiful blowout:

Revlon Blowout

I wanted to describe what I used to achieve this look in a little bit more detail.

For starters, I used the Revlon Hot Air Dryer & Styler:

Revlon Hot Air Dryer & Styler

This tool has literally changed my life, and my mom’s. It is the perfect combo of blowdryer, brush, and curler. It works on ALL hair types. My mom’s hair is incredibly dry and frizzy, but this tool tames her hair seamlessly. AND it’s SO EASY. Trying to blowout your hair with a round brush in one hand and a heavy blowdryer in the other can seem overwhelming and difficult. With this tool, you can get salon quality results without stepping foot in the salon.

1. Apply product and heat protectant to cleansed hair after the shower.

2. Use the non-round brush connector to dry your hair, using only the tool and your fingers, until it feels slightly damp (this will speed up the styling process).

3. Section off your hair into layers. Pretend you are straightening or curling your hair, and work from underneath layers to top layers, using only a small lock of hair at a time.

4. With each strand you style, repeat the motion of curling and brushing out your hair around the round brush until the lock is completely dry. As long as you remember to stay in motion, your hair will be less prone to heat damage.

5. Depending on your hair’s thickness, you should be done within 15-30 minutes. Apply a finishing product to maintain the look.

Product Review

1) St. Tropez Gradual Tan

Self-Tanner

I have always been against tanning. The sun is damaging, and so are the harsh chemicals in self-tanners. Recently, however, a friend recommended this product to me. It’s 100% natural, paraben and sulfate free, and it even moisturizes your skin!

2) bareMinerals Complexion Rescue

bareMinerals complexion rescue

The same friend that recommended the self-tanner recommended this product… and I definitely see why! This product has no parabens, silicone, oil, or fragrance. It appears to be the combination of a CC and BB cream, mixed with a tinted moisturizer. But here is the catch–it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing ANYTHING! You can wear it alone, or mix it with your foundation.

3) SensatioNail Gel Polish Removal Kit

Gel polish removal kit

I LOVE gel nails! I do NOT LOVE having to make an appointment to get them removed. In the past, I have tried removing them myself, but I never got the hang of it. After finding this product, I don’t think I will ever go into the salon to get them removed again! You start out by buffing and filing your nails with their SensatioNail Buffer. Then you use pure acetone to saturate the pads on their pieces of foil before wrapping them around each nail. If you have a friend or family member nearby you might want to ask for help with this part, because once you have foil on a few nails it’s hard to get your fingers to function properly. After soaking for 15-20 minutes, you take the foil off. They supply you with a manicure stick to gently scrape off the polish. You finish by smoothing and adding shine to your nails with the SensatioNail Buffer. This whole process took about 30 minutes, and it comes with 3 sets of foil. For healthy nails, and a healthy bank account, this is the best way to remove gel nails.

Alternatives

I have always been self-conscious about my legs. It’s been hard for me to find a good pair of shorts that I feel confident in. Most denim shorts are too tight, too short, and fall too low on my waist. Luckily, I have found a few pairs of high-waisted cloth shorts to wear instead.

They are looser, more comfortable, and more flattering.

These alternatives are a lot easier to dress up too! Pair them with the right accessories, and before you know it they are ready for a night out on the town.

The right pattern makes them the best accent piece to bring out on a hot day.

If you are invited to a graduation, but don’t want to outshine the graduate or wear something uncomfortable, then I recommend finding an accent piece to pair with classic basics.

My accent piece was this eye catching top from Urban.

This top can stand alone! The color and style is appropriate for an outdoor ceremony, and I felt like myself in it–the most important aspect of an accent piece.
