Athleisure Sneakers

The athleisure trend has been in full force for a while now, and though controversial to some, I’m 100% supportive of the movement! Especially when traveling and living in San Francisco, I found myself grateful many times that wearing sneakers with a stylish outfit was considered fully acceptable and even in vogue. After contemplating the new fad, I realized that the sneakers are, in fact, the defining piece to achieving the athleisure look! Think about it…no matter what you’re wearing—be it a dress, pea coat, or jeans—adding chic sneakers takes your style from everyday to sporty. And yes, some take the trend a bit more seriously by wearing their full on workout clothing and just adding a cute jacket to the mix, but when looking at the full spectrum of athleisure outfits, all you really need are some stylish sneakers to fulfill the requirements. In my hopes of supporting practical fashions, I thought I would share the perfect athleisure sneakers for a little extra inspiration! Check them out:

Long Skirts for the Modern Girl

When I was younger, I always kept my distance from long skirts. I felt they were restraining, unshapely, and one of the many fads from the 19th century that I didn’t want to revisit. Fast forward to 2018 when long skirts have completely reinvented themselves, and now they are not only breathable and flattering, but also versatile. They provide options for styling an outfit in a myriad of ways—from sporty to professional and everywhere in between. It’s fun experimenting with them. Check out some of my favorite long skirt trends thus far:

Flats

For the longest time I didn’t think much of flats. I always felt they were boring, unflattering, and they never made the cut into my wardrobe. When I pictured flats, I saw a plain, black ballet slipper that didn’t help my figure or outfit in any way. Back in high school and my early college years, my wardrobe consisted of two (loose) categories: sneakers and heels. I wore Converse or Vans to school and would put on heels whenever I went out. Since then, things have changed dramatically. Living in the city and dealing with public transportation made me dread high heels. Don’t get me wrong, I still love a good heel, but I needed something in between. Not to mention, I wanted to elevate my daily style without always feeling overdressed/uncomfortable. Insert flats. As I opened my mind, I started noticing a wide range of options that not only added to my outfit, but didn’t make my legs appear shorter than they are. I fell in love with so many different genres from a classic loafer to a pointy toe flat. Now I find myself wearing flats more than any other shoe style. Check out some of my favorite daily flats on the market:

Vintage Style

Most trends are cyclical, moving in and out of vogue over time. What was fashionable for an older generation, i.e. bellbottoms, may be a dreaded faux pas later; yet some pieces are so iconic that they have made repeated encores. Here are a few examples of style fads that have made impressive comebacks:

Sweater Weather

Sweater weather is in full swing, and I couldn’t be happier. When the temperature dips, my go-to looks usually involve a sweater. I love pairing a cardigan over a tank top and high waisted jeans, putting on booties with a chunky turtleneck, or wearing a simple loose-knit pull over with leggings and flats. Fall is the perfect time to update your sweater collection! After perusing multiple stores, H&M definitely has the best options for the best price. No matter the style, fit, or color, they have what you’re looking for and more! Check out some of my favorite sweaters from their collection:

Fall Inspiration

Fall is finally here! Hands down, this is my favorite season, and October is the best month of the year where I live. I love the cooler weather, shorter days, and cozy vibes that Fall brings, and we can’t forget about the fashion, of course! I wanted to share some Fall trends to look out for, according to a few bloggers that have been inspiring me for years. Check them out:

Plaid Please

Plaid, Gal Meets Glam

Gal Meets Glam

Plaid is definitely back in style. I used to wear plaid a lot when I was a kid and have since tried to incorporate it into my wardrobe with bits and pieces, like a subtle scarf here and there, but now I feel like I can really dive in. I love the look of a plaid skirt. And no, I don’t mean like an old Britney Spears music video, but rather something a little longer, classier, and paired with a chunky sweater and boots.

Say “Yes” to Camel

Damsel In Dior

Camel is one of the colors I rarely gravitate towards, but all of a sudden I’m thinking I need to hop on the trend train. Camel is simple, yet sophisticated. The earthy tone suits Fall perfectly, bringing out the foliage nicely. I love an oversized camel sweater or dress, and maybe even a camel wool coat too. It’s meant to be a statement piece, and that statement is understated elegance.

Pleated Skirts are Unexpectedly Fun

Late Afternoon

A long pleated skirt has been on my wish list for some time now, but I’ve been seeing them a lot lately. Long skirts transition well—you can pair them with a sweater or heavier coat, flats or booties, and dress them up or down. They are a must-have closet staple, and add just a tad of special to an ordinary style.

Pop Some Color

Natalie Dressed, Earrings

Natalie Dressed

Usually when I think of Fall, I imagine muted colors and tones, like tan, burgundy, and green. But I love the way an accessory can add a pop to a Fall outfit. It isn’t overwhelming, just a little something to make you look twice. One bright color can be the best complement to an otherwise understated look. I love the splash of a brightly colored scarf, tights, or piece of jewelry.

Something Navy

Suede is a great alternative to a heavy leather jacket. It’s lighter, subtler, and softer! The brown suede jacket is a classic look for Fall, but other colors are fun too. A warm burgundy or orange is a playful way to wear the fabric. Suede makes everything more fashionable. Throw it over a simple t-shirt and jeans; you’ll be ready for whatever the day has in store!

Off The Shoulder

urban outfitters Off the shoulder dress, floral, ootd, pink, summer, blogger, fashion, sunglasses, heels, feminine

It took me a long time to hop on the Off The Shoulder train. I always assumed I wouldn’t be able pull it off, or that I would need to pull it up every second like with strapless dresses—but I was pleasantly surprised.

urban outfitters Off the shoulder dress, floral, ootd, pink, summer, blogger, fashion, sunglasses, heels, feminine

I have found Off The Shoulder dresses to be way more supportive and flattering than strapless dresses. Not to mention, the femininity is effortless.

I normally don’t wear necklaces, but I love pairing an Off The Shoulder dress with a simple, dainty chain.

For those of us who don’t have sculpted upper arms, this cut is perfect. You get to show off what you want, and hide what you don’t.

This dress in particular is more supportive than most. The elastic in the chest section is perfectly placed, and the scrunched fabric looks cuter on than I had expected.

Fourth of July Tops

Fourth of july outfit, forever 21

Tomorrow is one of my favorite holidays–there is so much to celebrate. I usually spend Independence Day swimming in the lake and eating BBQ. My go-to patriotic look is something breathable, able to be worn over a bathing suit, and in the red, white, or blue color family. Thus, the tie front button-down.

The top in this pic is from a couple years ago, but here are some similar options:

Playing with Patterns

Tank Top, Denim Skirt, Heels, sunglasses

I’ve always been drawn to a fun print; there’s something so effortless about throwing on a playful top–the rest just falls into place.

Tank Top, Denim Skirt, Heels, sunglasses

During the warmer months I especially love to experiment with my wardrobe. That means switching out my favorite basics for something with a little more personality.

Tank Top, Denim Skirt, Heels, sunglasses

A feminine pattern is my favorite. A delicate design with light colors complements my style nicely. Pairing a fun top with a neutral bottom ensures my look isn’t overwhelming. I try to keep the rest of my look a little muted too—natural makeup and hair, a low heel.

Tank Top, Denim Skirt, Heels, sunglasses

It can be fun to step out of your comfort zone for a while, and playing dress up never gets old. Soon you get so comfortable trying new looks, you realize you aren’t playing anymore. You’re just being you.
