Mix & Match

I love to mix & match my clothing.

That’s why fashion is so much fun–there are NO rules!

I bought the burgundy long sleeve pictured above thinking of it only as a dress.

I imagined myself wearing it buttoned down with a belt to define my waist and maybe with tights and boots in the winter, but I had never once thought about unbuttoning it.

As a dress, this piece of clothing sat in my closet for months. I would try it on from time to time, but never ended up wearing it.

And then it hit me. I could try wearing this a different way–mix it up. So I did.

Though I still think it would look cute as a dress, it suits me much better as a cardigan.

Spring Break

Free People Dress, Lucky Brand Sandals, Nordstrom Sunnies

Spring Break has gone by way too fast. I’m dreading going back to school.

I spent most days in my pajamas, but last night I decided to dress up–hoping my mood would improve too. And it did.

School takes so much out of me. It’s exhausting. Personally, I find that having a good day starts in my closet.

When I put something on that makes me feel happy, confident, and uplifted, my day turns out better. Mindset is everything. For me, looking good is feeling good. It is different for everybody, though.

Sometimes the trick to having a positive day is surrounding yourself with positive people.

That’s why Spring Break is so important. It gives you time to rejuvenate your soul.

During the school year, I find myself feeling rushed to get out the door, and often annoyed that I have to “try”. I forget that I actually ENJOY the process of getting ready.

I love trying different outfits on, playing with make-up and hair, and taking long showers. It can be nice to prepare yourself for whatever the day has in store. Unfortunately, it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day stress of teachers, tests, and traffic. It becomes habit to not want to wake up and face the day.

Spring Break has reminded me to take the time to try and make each day the the best it can be, especially if that means choosing to wear something that makes me happy.

Outerlandssf

Nordstrom Sunnies

Outerlands is one of my favorite spots to brunch in the city. They are located on Judah Street in the Inner Sunset, just a few blocks up from Ocean Beach. Since it is finally starting to feel like Spring in the city, we opted for outside seating.

Outerlands Sf

I ordered the iced ginger lemon apple cider–a perfect way to start the day. You can even add bourbon if you don’t have class to go to after!

Joel began with a cappuccino…

…then upgraded to a gin and juice (ford’s gin, fresh grapefruit, vanilla bean syrup). Their sandwiches really hit the spot. Joel got the cast-iron grilled cheese with avo.

I chose their veggie sandwich (squash, feta, kale, romesco). Superb. Oh, and did I mention how much I loved the side of pickled veggies?! It was a refreshing touch.

Our sweet tooth couldn’t be ignored. We split the glazed donut (matcha, pepita, grapefruit). It was served warm and satisfied our cravings.

We were completely stuffed, so we decided to walk it off at Lands End. As you can tell from the picture, Joel doesn’t like taking selfies as much as me. Fear not…it hasn’t stopped me from documenting our every move yet! (he-he)

Denim

In my opinion, there are really only five styles of Jeans you need to complete your wardrobe.

Levi's Jeans

Dark Wash High Rise Skinny

(The Versatile Jean: dress it up or down depending on the day or occasion)

Gap Jeans

Light Wash Straight

(The Everyday Jean: perfect for running errands or meeting a friend for coffee)

Boyfriend Jeans

Light Wash Boyfriend

(The Weekend Jean: these jeans have enough stretch for a long walk or moving day)

Black Jeans

Black High Rise Skinny

(The Night Out Jean: whether it’s date night or girls’ night, you’re covered)

Flare Jeans

Dark Wash High Rise Flare

(The Personality Jean: for when you feel like something different and just want to play a little)

Blush

Yesterday was the first day of March. Though it’s technically still Winter, I am automatically starting to transition into Spring mode. I associate the color Blush with Spring (despite the fact that I wear it all year long). It’s light, feminine, flowery, timeless, and ethereal. Check out some of my Blush favorites for Spring:

Valentine’s Day

San Francisco is full of great things to do. With so many options to choose from, we opted for a favorite–Ghirardelli Square. The desserts are decadent, and the scenery is unbeatable.

Valentine’s day is the perfect excuse to play tourist!

Spring Wish List: Midi Skirts

I know Spring is still aways away, but I can’t stop dreaming of warmer weather, sunny skies, and longer days. Midi Skirts have been on my wish list for quite sometime now. I mean, all of my favorite bloggers are wearing them:

I think the reason I haven’t gotten around to investing in one is because I haven’t noticed much variety in stores. I prefer to try skirts and dresses on before a purchase, but I think I might just have to take the plunge this season (ordering online), even if it means there is a chance of a return/exchange (ugh).

Here are a few Midi Skirts I have my eyes on:

How To Wear Long Shirts

Abercrombie Outerwear, Abercrombie Long Shirt, Express Leggings, Nordstrom Sunnies, Dollhouse Booties

(Abercrombie Top and Jacket, Express Leggings, Charlotte Russe Booties, Nordstrom Sunnies)

I LOVE long shirts. This fashion statement can make or break an outfit–especially if you are petite. Though there are generally NO rules when it comes to fashion, I have a few suggestions for how to wear long shirts that might help short girls pull it off.

  1. Choose a neutral color. Even though this shirt is the main attraction, too much attention to that one area can be a distraction from the look as a whole. This Asos Top is perfect. Asos Top
  2. Find a cropped jacket that can accentuate how long your legs are. Without it, your silhouette can disappear. A jacket similar to this Free People one will do the trick. free people jacket
  3. Pair your top with skinny jeans or leggings. Once again, this will help define your shape. Madewell is currently having a sale on thesemadewell leggings
  4. Finally, I recommend a pair of heels! As with any outfit, heels not only add height to your look, but they also give you the appearance of longer legs. I just bought these booties from Charlotte Russe and am in LOVE. Charlotte Russe booties
