Happy New Year everyone! This is my first post of 2015. I went for a mini road trip today. Joel and I drove through the Santa Cruz Mountains, and what a wonderful view it was.

I went for the high knee socks thing… kicking off the new year with experimentation!

This dress isn’t too flattering on its own, but pairing it with a fitted jacket really helped redefine my waist.

This year, my main resolution is to try and find out who I really am. This blog has given me a wonderful platform to do this, and though it’s only been less than a year, I have already learned more about myself than I ever imagined. I’m so excited for what is to come.

Three Years

It’s my Three Year Anniversary! Last night we went out to our favorite sushi place, tonight we are seeing Fury, and tomorrow night we are going to Alcatraz!

Whenever I go out, I usually do the typical heels, maybe a dress, or at least skinny jeans thing. For some reason, I felt like mixing it up last night. Why can’t we still dress up without feeling uncomfortable?

I opted for the statement necklace and satin button down to keep my look classy. Sometimes that’s all you really need.

And my new shoes from American Eagle, of course! This season I am all about patterns; it adds personality and flavor to any look.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but I recently started working at Abercrombie & Fitch (this deserves an entire blog post, I know). Anyway, I get discounted clothes not only from Abercrombie and Abercrombie Kids, but also Hollister, which is where this coat is from!

Surprisingly, one of my best buys! It can be casual, fancy, and actually really useful in the city! More importantly, just what I needed to top off my date night look.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass

Music festivals aren’t usually my thing…but the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival was free, and Golden Gate Park is on my way home– So I thought, What The Heck?! I put my Baggu backpack on and went exploring.

It was around 80 degrees all weekend, so I brought back out my peach crop top for the rest of our Indian Summer.

My latest purchase: These high-waisted boyfriend jeans by Levi’s.

They are so versatile, chic, and comfy…what could be better?!

Not only do these jeans pair perfectly with my Steve Madden Mules, but they also work well with my BDG Flats–something a little more Music Festival Friendly.

POPSUGAR recently wrote, “It’s officially music festival season, which means it’s time to pack the perfect fairground essentials that look fantastic without looking like you’re trying too hard. And comfort is key — especially when dancing all day and night to killer bands.”

I couldn’t agree more! When it is hot out, and there are a million people around, being comfortable is the only way to guarantee you will have a good time. When you look good, you feel good….So, if you feel good, you will look good! T’was a successful weekend.

The Gospel According To Coco Chanel

First thing’s first, my new haircut! Yes, it’s WAY shorter….but I am someone who LOVES to experiment with my hair. So I thought, new season–new hair…I mean, who doesn’t think that way?!

My new haircut aside, this weekend I went to Green Apple Books and bought Gone Girl, something I need to read before seeing the movie, and The Gospel According To Coco Chanel!

One of my favorite things to do on a sunny weekend in the city is read in the park, and Dolores Park is the perfect destination. Coco Chanel has amazing life lessons for ALL women and girls! Chapter three is titled, “On Fearlessness” and it begins with a quote from Chanel, “The most courageous act is to think for yourself. Aloud.”

I am constantly working towards finding my own voice, and more importantly, having confidence in my own voice. For me, that means not being afraid to share what I think with the world. Spoiler: It’s way harder than it seems. And what do I do when things are hard?! Read another chapter from The Gospel. In chapter eleven, “On Living Life On Your Own Terms”, I found the solution to my problem.

So…as we all know…It’s New York Fashion Week…

And as a mere college student living in San Francisco, I thought it quite suitable to play dress up!

Then again, I find it quite suitable to play dress up almost any day of the week!

I hope to one day be able to experience NYFW for myself, but until then, I’ll just have to find ways to add to the fashion spirit from this side of the country!

Is it just me, or is it easier to wear your hair natural when your outfit is a tad on the fancy side? Some might call it backwards, but for some reason, I feel more confident knowing my outfit can stand alone…

And when my outfit speaks for itself, so do I!

Ahh…I love when food and fashion collide!

Off The Grid is basically a Food Truck Fair. One of the best things about living in San Francisco is that there are always opportunities to go out!

And going out means…outfit time! Fort Mason is beautiful on a friday night at the end of summer, but as the fog creeps in it gets chilly. H&M has the best fashion forward, yet practical jackets! (P.s. They are having a Labor Day sale right now!)

My style is usually something simple, comfortable, and one item that adds a little bit of character. These shoes add character for me. They change a day outfit into an evening look.

The Messy Bun

The Messy Bun is a simple, yet versatile look– something every fashionista should know how to create.

To begin, pull your hair into a ponytail. It works best if your hair is a little dirty and hasn’t been brushed yet.

If you have an old scrunchy, like this one here, it will come in handy. Put your ponytail through the scrunchy, then start wrapping the ponytail around the scrunchy until you have a donut shape.

All that’s left is adding a little hairspray.

I think it’s safe to say that every fashionista has heard about “The Black & Brown Rule”.

Well, here’s the deal. The rule, like many other ridiculous fashion rules, can be thrown out the window if executed correctly.

If you’re trying to wear black and brown together, it’s most likely because the specific shades of those colors do in fact look good together. In my case, I chose a light brown purse with a dark black heel.

Another great tip to remember is subtlety. Adding white can help create a distraction to the “clashing” colors. The black in my outfit is less severe not only because of my black and white striped dress, but also because there is a dress lending space between the main black and brown pieces.

Another great distraction is adding a completely different colored jacket to the look. I chose a jean jacket to keep the dress more casual.

Some months of the year make wearing your hair natural so easy! And then there’s summertime…

Don’t give up yet! There’s a solution for the days you don’t feel like blowing out those waves, because you’re just going to go for a midnight swim after dinner anyway.

You only need two products to achieve the “I didn’t touch my hair after the shower” look. The first, SEAPLASMA All Purpose Skin And Hair Moisturizer, I spray all over my hair after towel drying it.

The second, TRENDstarter Leave-In Styling Conditioner with Keratin, I spray into my hands before munching up on and twisting through my wet curls. All that’s left is the wait for your hair to dry, and in the summertime that’s pretty easy.

The Crop Top is the top of the summer. It’s ideal for a beach day, and easy enough to dress up by adding a matching heel.

These are my GO-TO pair of jeans. Levis does a great job making jeans that don’t stretch out too much during the day, but also feel as comfortable as my sweats. The high rise style is perfect for an outfit like this– showing off just the right amount of skin.
