Vintage Style

Most trends are cyclical, moving in and out of vogue over time. What was fashionable for an older generation, i.e. bellbottoms, may be a dreaded faux pas later; yet some pieces are so iconic that they have made repeated encores. Here are a few examples of style fads that have made impressive comebacks:

Hello 2018!

Happy New Year, New Years Eve, 2018, Resolutions, January, New Year, NYE, Winter

2017 is finally over…thank Goodness. I’m beyond ready for a fresh start. 2018 marks the beginning of my adult life. I’m graduated from college and looking for the right career path—wish me luck! Most years I don’t make any legitimate resolutions, but this time I feel inclined to start. Join me in stepping into the New Year on the right foot, with realistic goals to work toward that will improve my quality of life in one way or another. Some are geared towards self-confidence; others focus on the big picture; and a few are small, personal goals I’m passionate about. I’ve come up with 10 resolutions that will make me very happy, even if just one of them comes true.

1.       Eat something green every day.

2.       Wear my natural hair at least every two weeks.

3.       Live in the moment.

4.       Travel somewhere new at every opportunity.

5.       Take better care of my skin.

6.       Finish a minimum of one new book each month.

7.       Cook a meal more than once a week.

8.       Work on my video editing skills.

9.       Find a job I (hopefully) enjoy.

10.   Workout twice a week.

I’m excited to check in this time next year and see what I’ve accomplished. Happy New Year!!!

Holiday Hair

The holidays are creeping up on us, and I couldn’t be more ready. One of my favorite aspects of the season are the many fun excuses to get all dolled up! It’s no secret that experimenting with hair and makeup is one of my most beloved past times, and Thanksgiving is a great chance to debut a new style! As I’ve blogged about before, Kristin Ess is one of the most Instagram worthy hairstylists out there—she’s constantly inspiring me to try something new. I love her effortless, chic looks. They feel ethereal and timeless, and usually aren’t that difficult to recreate. I especially love when she adds a simple accessory to her up-dos—something that would fit well on an extra special occasion during the Winter months. Take a peek at some of my favorite looks that she has created; I also gathered up some pretty accessories that will elevate any hairstyle this season. Happy styling!

Fall Decor Inspiration

I love how the short, brisk days of Fall make me want to curl up by a fire with a good book, a warm blanket, and a mug of hot apple cider. I grew up in a home that always felt good to be in, with many nooks for curling up. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that making a house feel like a home is no accident, and I appreciate the efforts my parents made to always make our house warm and inviting, particularly around special times of year. When I moved to the city for school, I missed those many comforts. To help make my apartment feel like home, I started decorating with little bits and pieces to bring the Holidays inside. For me, when Summer turns to Fall, that means hanging string lights around the windows, getting a few small pumpkins to set out, and lighting pumpkin pie scented candles. If you’re having some trouble coming up with Autumn décor ideas, check out some of the Pinterest inspirations below.

Halloween Make-up Inspiration

Halloween is just around the corner! As I’ve gotten older, dressing up for the festivities has become more and more of a chore. When I was a kid, it felt so hard to decide between so many great choices, but now I usually feel completely unable to find a really good costume. Unluckily, I’ve never been crafty enough to make an entire original creation either. I’ve learned to focus on the make-up as the centerpiece of my effort. When the make-up is really good, somehow the rest of a costume is always elevated too, and it makes the whole thing fun again. Check out some of my favorite beauty YouTubers for some inspiration:

Fall Inspiration

Fall is finally here! Hands down, this is my favorite season, and October is the best month of the year where I live. I love the cooler weather, shorter days, and cozy vibes that Fall brings, and we can’t forget about the fashion, of course! I wanted to share some Fall trends to look out for, according to a few bloggers that have been inspiring me for years. Check them out:

Plaid Please

Plaid is definitely back in style. I used to wear plaid a lot when I was a kid and have since tried to incorporate it into my wardrobe with bits and pieces, like a subtle scarf here and there, but now I feel like I can really dive in. I love the look of a plaid skirt. And no, I don’t mean like an old Britney Spears music video, but rather something a little longer, classier, and paired with a chunky sweater and boots.

Camel is one of the colors I rarely gravitate towards, but all of a sudden I’m thinking I need to hop on the trend train. Camel is simple, yet sophisticated. The earthy tone suits Fall perfectly, bringing out the foliage nicely. I love an oversized camel sweater or dress, and maybe even a camel wool coat too. It’s meant to be a statement piece, and that statement is understated elegance.

Pleated Skirts are Unexpectedly Fun

A long pleated skirt has been on my wish list for some time now, but I’ve been seeing them a lot lately. Long skirts transition well—you can pair them with a sweater or heavier coat, flats or booties, and dress them up or down. They are a must-have closet staple, and add just a tad of special to an ordinary style.

Pop Some Color

Usually when I think of Fall, I imagine muted colors and tones, like tan, burgundy, and green. But I love the way an accessory can add a pop to a Fall outfit. It isn’t overwhelming, just a little something to make you look twice. One bright color can be the best complement to an otherwise understated look. I love the splash of a brightly colored scarf, tights, or piece of jewelry.

Something Navy

Suede is a great alternative to a heavy leather jacket. It’s lighter, subtler, and softer! The brown suede jacket is a classic look for Fall, but other colors are fun too. A warm burgundy or orange is a playful way to wear the fabric. Suede makes everything more fashionable. Throw it over a simple t-shirt and jeans; you’ll be ready for whatever the day has in store!

Fall Inspo

Sometimes I feel stuck in my style. This time of year starts moving so fast, I end up wearing the same outfit on repeat. For me that means high waisted jeans, flannel, booties, and my leather jacket. But Fall is the perfect time to experiment. Check out a few of my favorite bloggers that bring new meaning to the word inspire. Not only is their Fall Fashion game strong, but they are apart of the Girl Boss Club that I aspire to join one day.

Marais USA

Marais USA is my latest obsession. It’s so rare for me to love every item in one brand’s collection, but in this case it’s true. Not only do their shoes speak to me, but the inspiration behind the company is compelling. Here is a bit from their blog’s about page:

Their shoes are classic and sophisticated–yet colorful and distinct. They are a great addition to any outfit, be it simple or extravagant. Check them out:

The Choker

Chokers

It’s no secret that chokers have come back in style. Even though all the top supermodels are wearing them, it’s been hard for me to hop back on the 90s train. I think the reason they haven’t resonated with me is because they aren’t a subtle accessory, but rather a statement piece. Until now, that is…

Free People have a wide variety of chokers that are more my style. They are understated and elegant. Here are a just a few chokers from their collection that stood out to me:
