A classic wedding gown is beautiful and romantic. But what do you wear if you are opting for a modest wedding? Maybe you are eloping to Vegas, or getting hitched at the courthouse. Maybe a big ball gown just isn’t your thing. Enter the alternative wedding dress. A couple weekends ago I went to a beautiful wedding up in Sonoma. I had never been to Wine Country before and found myself stressing over what to wear….what else is new? I wanted something that would keep me cool in the heat, but also polished enough for a wedding. Enter The Keyhole Dress.
The day before the wedding I found myself shopping at a nearby mall, just in case I came across a dress better than the one I brought. And I did. At a Tilly’s. I was reluctant to try on the Keyhole style. I usually prefer a silhouette that accents my waist, and a neck line that isn’t too revealing. With pressure from my mom and sister, I tried it on and was pleasantly surprised. The neck line added a hint of elegance, and my waist didn’t completely disappear beneath the loose fabric. On such a hot day, I was thankful for the flowy design. I was reminded of why I love fashion so much–it pushes me to step out of my comfort zone.

The belt is an accessory I forget about easily. I rarely need to wear it on my jeans, so I end up not wearing it at all. Today, however, it made all the difference.
I found this dress at the Gap and fell in love. The dropped waist made me feel like I was from the 1920s–an inspiring fashion era. But tonight I wasn’t in the vintage mood. Thus, the belt.
I added this Urban belt and immediately felt complete. Some nights you want your waist defined and some nights you don’t. The belt makes it so either option is possible, and for that I’m grateful. If you think about it, you’re really getting two outfits for the price of one! Ah, fashion. Your wallet will love you for it.

I bought the burgundy long sleeve pictured above thinking of it only as a dress.
I imagined myself wearing it buttoned down with a belt to define my waist and maybe with tights and boots in the winter, but I had never once thought about unbuttoning it.
As a dress, this piece of clothing sat in my closet for months. I would try it on from time to time, but never ended up wearing it.
And then it hit me. I could try wearing this a different way–mix it up. So I did.
Though I still think it would look cute as a dress, it suits me much better as a cardigan.

Spring Break has gone by way too fast. I’m dreading going back to school.
I spent most days in my pajamas, but last night I decided to dress up–hoping my mood would improve too. And it did.
School takes so much out of me. It’s exhausting. Personally, I find that having a good day starts in my closet.
When I put something on that makes me feel happy, confident, and uplifted, my day turns out better. Mindset is everything. For me, looking good is feeling good. It is different for everybody, though.
Sometimes the trick to having a positive day is surrounding yourself with positive people.
That’s why Spring Break is so important. It gives you time to rejuvenate your soul.
During the school year, I find myself feeling rushed to get out the door, and often annoyed that I have to “try”. I forget that I actually ENJOY the process of getting ready.
I love trying different outfits on, playing with make-up and hair, and taking long showers. It can be nice to prepare yourself for whatever the day has in store. Unfortunately, it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day stress of teachers, tests, and traffic. It becomes habit to not want to wake up and face the day.
Spring Break has reminded me to take the time to try and make each day the the best it can be, especially if that means choosing to wear something that makes me happy.

P.S. Dear Sugar Radio is the best for long car rides, long walks, and just about any other time you feel like it.
Has anyone else been wondering what the difference between sweatpants and joggers are? I’m pretty sure the only difference is that joggers are socially acceptable to wear out and about, whereas sweatpants are frowned upon. These are basically the only thing I wore in Disneyland. And yes, I call them joggers.
Something else I can’t stop wearing: this scarf. It’s soft, warm, and burgundy. Need I say more?
I have found the holy grail of skin care products. Tarte’s Maracuja Oil is a miracle. Acne? Cured. Dry skin? Gone. Glowing? Yes. You’re welcome.
