Summer Style

My Summer Style inspiration has been none other than the great Katharine Hepburn.

She screams effortless confidence, and I love trying to find ways to emulate that.

There’s something about a wide leg pant that makes me feel together.

They speak for themselves. They are comfortable, casual yet classic, and a wardrobe staple (especially this season).

I have been going mostly make-up free this summer–relying heavily on a bold lip to dress up my outfits.

I recently tried out Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick in Heathers, and I can’t seem to wear anything else!

I wear it over a liquid concealer and it stays on all day! I am dying to try out the Pure Hollywood shade for days when I want a less dramatic look.

Growing up, I always gravitated towards tight fitting clothes. Now, I am constantly finding myself drifting away from my comfort zone–playing with style and fit.

My theme for Summer has been trying to find alternatives to denim shorts, but then I found these…

Usually all of the denim cutoffs I try on are too tight around my thighs and fall too low on my waist! These are different.

These Levi’s are loose and comfortable. They scream Summertime! And unlike most pairs of jean shorts, I can dress them up a bit with a nice wedge, patterned shirt, and red lip.

Joel and I had been searching high and low for the best photoshoot location. We had actually given up by the time we pulled into the neighborhood park.

I ended up gravitating towards this green bench. The next thing I knew we were in full on photoshoot mode.

There is something so calm and peaceful about spending an afternoon in the park. The grass is green, the sun sets, and time begins to slow down just for a moment…

Once we got there I had wished we packed a picnic and a couple novels to unwind with.

Instead, we sat in silence on the cool green bench, watching the day turn to night.

It may sound funny, but every time I wear these shorts I will always remember the feeling I had in the park that day.

Summer was eternal that afternoon, and I love those few pieces of clothing that transcend through time the way a memory can.

This patterned shirt could have been worn in the 20s or 60s, it can be dressed up or down, and it breathes with the wind.

Whether it be a pair of Levi’s, irreplaceable shoes, or a timeless blouse, clothing is a connection we have with each other, the past, and the future.

Our first day in Newport was so wonderful. What I love about SoCal the most is probably the weather. When it is a little overcast and a little foggy the overall temperature is still warm!

Being down there felt like a dream! The water was clear, the people were easy going, and time didn’t seem to matter as much.

Though we didn’t venture outside of our lovely state, every day still felt like an exploration. There’s something so exciting about crossing unfamiliar territory.

Finally Summer

Today was my first day of Summer! It feels so good to be done with finals and onto a new chapter.

This outfit was very much impromptu! I love how easy it can be to dress up a comfortable outfit with a few accessories and a jean jacket!

Summertime means binge watching on Netflix and Hulu without feeling guilty, working on my “tan” up at the lake, reading for PLEASURE, and lots and lots of ice cream!

In addition, I plan on spending a lot of quality time working on my blog! I can’t wait to have time to experiment with my style again.

I recently came across this quote that I found rather thought provoking…

Coco Chanel never ceases to amaze me. Just a little fashion for thought, right?!

On Me: Jacket and Purse

Unfortunately, I have another couple years before I get to put on another cap and gown…but many of you may be getting ready for the big day! So here are a few of my tips and tricks I picked up from my high school graduation:

1. Blow your hair out like Emma Watson. Believe me, all the fuss of curling your hair isn’t worth it when you have to put your cap on.

2. Wear Sunscreen! Nuff Said.

3. Bring a bag! It can be discreet, so make sure it is small and has crossbody straps. I cannot tell you how much this came in handy when I got thirsty or needed to freshen up my make-up during the long ceremony.

4. Sunglasses!!! You never know which direction you will be facing when the sun goes down.

Urban and Steve Madden are great brands when shopping for an easy dress and wedges to match.

It happened! I am officially no longer sans prescription.

I haven’t quite decided how I feel about it….Part of me is glad the anticipation for what I knew was coming has finally surpassed….

….And though I know this isn’t true, another part of me affiliates glasses with being old.

Despite all this, I’m so excited to play with my new fashion accessory!

Three Years

It’s my Three Year Anniversary! Last night we went out to our favorite sushi place, tonight we are seeing Fury, and tomorrow night we are going to Alcatraz!

Whenever I go out, I usually do the typical heels, maybe a dress, or at least skinny jeans thing. For some reason, I felt like mixing it up last night. Why can’t we still dress up without feeling uncomfortable?

I opted for the statement necklace and satin button down to keep my look classy. Sometimes that’s all you really need.

And my new shoes from American Eagle, of course! This season I am all about patterns; it adds personality and flavor to any look.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but I recently started working at Abercrombie & Fitch (this deserves an entire blog post, I know). Anyway, I get discounted clothes not only from Abercrombie and Abercrombie Kids, but also Hollister, which is where this coat is from!

Surprisingly, one of my best buys! It can be casual, fancy, and actually really useful in the city! More importantly, just what I needed to top off my date night look.

Foggy Fall

It’s time to pull back out my hat! The foggy city can do wonders to my hair…

This hat brings out the preppy side in me, and that’s NOT a bad thing. It’s fun to step out of my comfort zone.

Adding a pop of color to a simple look makes all the difference, and it really helps me feel confident when I’m experimenting with different outfits.

I’m in a Coco Chanel phase right now, so bare with me.

Music festivals aren’t usually my thing…but the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival was free, and Golden Gate Park is on my way home– So I thought, What The Heck?! I put my Baggu backpack on and went exploring.

It was around 80 degrees all weekend, so I brought back out my peach crop top for the rest of our Indian Summer.

My latest purchase: These high-waisted boyfriend jeans by Levi’s.

They are so versatile, chic, and comfy…what could be better?!

Not only do these jeans pair perfectly with my Steve Madden Mules, but they also work well with my BDG Flats–something a little more Music Festival Friendly.

POPSUGAR recently wrote, “It’s officially music festival season, which means it’s time to pack the perfect fairground essentials that look fantastic without looking like you’re trying too hard. And comfort is key — especially when dancing all day and night to killer bands.”

I couldn’t agree more! When it is hot out, and there are a million people around, being comfortable is the only way to guarantee you will have a good time. When you look good, you feel good….So, if you feel good, you will look good! T’was a successful weekend.
