I recently came across this article by the Daily Mail entitled, “You are what you DRESS: Clothing has significant effect on self-esteem and confidence, claims expert” (Karen Pine, professor from the University of Hertfordshire). Pine claims clothing can weigh in on more than just your personal appearance. After asking a group of students to wear a superman T-shirt for a day, she found that not only did the students feel superior to others, but they also felt stronger physically.
I have found this to be true in my own life as well. Aside from feeling more confident when I am in an outfit I love (something I know I look good in), I have noticed that dressing up can play a huge role in who I wanna present to the world. I remember shopping for my prom dress my senior year of high school…I didn’t know what I wanted to wear, but I knew who I wanted to BE that night. I wanted to show everyone a different side of myself than I brought to class everyday–the reserved, yet classy girl who looked up to style icons like Audrey Hepburn. I wanted to feel timeless; the same way I would look back on the last night of an impactful period of my life.
I imagine I felt similar to the way a superhero feels when they are in full costume, about to save the world…like everyone was finally able to see who I really was, and what I was capable of.

I really like this line: “I didn’t know what I wanted to wear, but I knew who I wanted to BE that night.” It seems like a great way to approach changing your style!
Thank you! I feel like I go through that feeling all the time when deciding what to wear for a particular day or event!
